That’s How We Do … Green Asparagus

The woman above us is sending soap bubbles towards the red setting sun and never has our suburb looked so beautiful. Or playful.

Yesterday, it was even warm enough to sit outside and read Martin: last week, I had managed to repair our huge old blind and clean all the highway-dusted surfaces on the balcony.

It’s a bank holiday today in Germany, a good thing, too … well, HE, for example, has cleaned all the windows in the afternoon, which he likes to do, while German fathers have been carousing around with their Bollerwagen. And yes, even after ten years of marriage, I am happy when HE stays at home, even though I don’t expect him to do anything special, just BE. I might be what you’d call a hopeless case.

Studying? Yes, I am. I can.

So, tell me: do you feel as terrible as I do when reading about the 1000 dead people in Dhaka and knowing we were and are supporting slavery, abuse and death? I know I do. 😦


Mmm …Mushrooms

Love them – don’t you?

Due to lack of time I bought instead of just picking my first cep today and prepared it together with some mashed potatoes (from the box) and pea sauce (frozen peas), only to find out my hubby doesn’t really like them. Ceps, porcinos, penny buns, boletes, whatever they are called in the English speaking part of the world. We call them Steinpilze, I call them grbanji in my mind and my hubby not really liking them means I get the whole portion next time. 🙂

1. First I roasted many different spices for the pea sauce – my Ayurveda cookbook requires me to use the whole programme: cumin, black cumin, turmeric, cilantro, black pepper, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, all of them ground, and to smile smugly at the thought most people would add garlic, too, because spicy food definitely means garlic, no? 😈 Well, not in my book: it never mentions any garlic or onions.

Next, I put a bunch of frozen peas (300 g) onto the spices and added some salt and some hot water (300 ml), then I let it all simmer as long as necessary for the frozen peas to get cooked (might have been 15 minutes).

2. I heated some clarified butter in another pot and roasted my mushroom in it, sliced into mouth-appropriate pieces. I added a bit of salt and let it all simmer for a few minutes, then I added a few spoons of water so that my mushroom wouldn’t stick.

3. I made mashed potatoes according to the instructions on the box.

4. Then I added a non-dietary quantity of soy cream to the peas and mashed them thoroughly to get a sauce.

I really liked the results. And as I said: hurray for the double portion of mushrooms next time!


Scones and stones won’t break my bones

The next moment I am flying.

It lasts a few seconds and when I’m done and because I haven’t ploughed the ground with my teeth I can deal with my hubby’s laughter first: “How was my … elegant flight?” I join him in splitting his sides, happy that I just about didn’t fall and hurt myself.

“I was just trying to find out whether I know anything else about scones with clotted cream,” I explain. “Of course I saw the branch lying there, all thin and unimportant. And of course I thought one should be able to simply step over its 2 cm. But then I thought of scones and the very next moment I made a very efficient tripping tool out of the innocent branch.”

Something in me wants to laugh the rest of the day so I try to keep it at bay by means of explanation. “Scones with clotted cream?!?!” He’s laughing again, even though it was him who brought up the topic, asking whether I knew anything about them. I didn’t. And I can’t stop laughing anymore, either.


A Zwetschgen Yoghurt Cake This Time

While studying is certainly No. 1 … 15 on my priorities list right now I also need some good quality spare time – just doing nice stuff or nothing at all. So that all those long German words (Richtlinienkompetenz, Bundesstaatenprinzip, Verfügungsgeschäft, Erklärungsbewusstsein …) have time to, you know, sink in … 🙂

After having visited a market in our small town today I decided to make Ms. Retailtherapist’s Super Easy Yoghurt Cake again, this time with plums. Zwetschgen, as they are called here. See, if you just order plums, like I did last week, you get plums that are good for eating but not for baking. So I took care to buy Zwetschgen this time and then made the cake with them. I did have to bake it much longer and at higher temperatures than it says in the recipe, maybe because I used wholemeal spelt flour? Anyway, it is a real treat.

I didn’t have the camera with me at the market but we bought funny Belgian beer glasses I’d like to show you. They are for sober people only – they won’t stand on their own:


Ponedeljkovo … pripovedovanje

Sori, ma ni bilo časa za hrano, o razlogih več kmalu 🙂

Je pa mogoče pravi čas za … nekaj drugega: če je kdo od vas kdaj verjel, da smo vegetarijanci blede trhlice s solzavimi očmi in redkimi lasmi, se je v veliko primerih pravzaprav kar fajn zmotil. 🙂

Sama sem na podlagi prehrane z manj kalorijami (aka dieta) shujšala enkrat samkrat v življenju, pri osemnajstih, čemur je sledil jojo po svim propisima :-), nato pa izguba teže zaradi preveč dela.
Zadnjih 10 let sem potem raje porabila za priti iz 62 na 74 kg in to brez pretiranega prenažiranja, brez ljubezni do sladkarij in brez sekiranja.

Letos bo tudi preteklo 20 let od moje odločitve za nemesno prehrano.

Skratka, vegetarijanska prehrana ni dieta za hujšanje.

Kljub temu zadnjih nekaj mesecev ugotavljam, da mi oblačila počasi postajajo prevelika, ker je velika smola, ker do 1. decembra ne nameravam kupiti novih.

Problem je v strastni navdušenosti nad dnevnosobnim poskakovanjem po eliptiku: sliši se čudno, ampak naprava je kriva marsičesa. Rahle izgube teže, veliko boljšega telesnega počutja, veliko boljšega razpoloženja, spremembe v prehrani (kar naenkrat lahko jem tudi testenine, ki mi ne obležijo v želodcu) itd.

Če mi bo kdo kdaj prijavil, da je tek edini pravi šport in gospod Krostrener v bistvu ni nič drugega kot dolgočasen lovilec prahu, se mu bom smejala. To lahko obljubim že zdaj. 🙂


Ponedeljkovo … receptovanje

Takole si moj Usojeni predstavlja nedeljske nudle:

Bili so naravnost božanski, na tak prijeten način sredozemski … pa ravno dovolj jih je bilo, za nekoga, ki ni ravno testeninski fanatik.

Drugače pa imam zadnje čase kulinarično krizo: večina stvari, ki jih skuham, mi ne tekne preveč. Zadnjič sem celo izjavila, da mi zdaj gre tudi zelenjava na živce 😆 Dragi kar verjeti ni mogel.

Nakar sem mu razložila, da bom od sedaj večino časa kuhala jedi, ki so zdrave in nasitijo in jim imava vsaj malo rada, vmes pa se moram naučiti novih stvari, ker mi skoraj vse, kar sem delala do sedaj, gre na živce. Pa količino dušene zelenjave moram zmanjšati, kdo pa lahko to poje … Pa nove začimbe oziroma kombinacije začimb rabim … Ojoj.


Ponedeljkovo … receptovanje

Ena od najpomembnejših sprememb pri prehrani, ki mi jih zadnje čase narekuje moj absolutno razvajeni želodčič, je neke vrste želodčno zgražanje ob misli na kruh s sirom za večerjo.

Ljääächhh, velikokrat poreče izbirčni gospod Želodec, warum wieder Käsebrot?!?!

Ker sem poslušna, predvsem pa dosledna punca, se potem odpovem tako kruhu kot siru, kar ni nič hudega, sploh:

Ponedeljkovo … receptovanje

Čeprav jajčevce dokazano obožujem, do sedaj nisem šla wikipedijat, kaj je v njih tudi zdravega. Mogoče začnem s tem, preden vam pokažem sliko, ki se ji ne boste mogli upreti? Btw, del rastline, ki ga jemo, je v bistvu jagodičevje, njegova semena pa vsebujejo nikotin 🙂

100 g jajčevca (melancane) med drugim vsebuje (vir) …

– 24 kcal

– 5,7 g ogljikovih hidratov

– 3,4 g prehranskih vlaknin

– 1 g beljakovin

– kup mineralov

– 0,19 g maščob

Po navadi jih skupaj z nekaj šampinjoni dušim v vodi, z dodatkom soli, timijana in črnega popra, preden postrežem, pa dodam še sojino smetano.

Potem pa sem zadnjo nedeljo dragemu naročila, da naj zame naredi jajčevec, če bo zase delal ribe. Finta: dečko ne mara jajčevcev, sploh. In še nikoli jih ni delal. Tja.

(ne bom dolgovezila: stvar mu je absolutno uspela in počutila sem se zelo počaščeno)
